ASTRONAUTALIS...

with the passing of idea, the future of post hiphop (for lack of a better word) needs a new champion. my vote goes for this dude.... from the videos ive seen astronautalis rips up the shows live. plus he tours a rediculous extent - and hes still working on two new albums, one a collab with P.O.S - i expect good things, his lyrics are top of the game i think.

MOGWAI - SINE WAVE

FOUR TET - WARMER PLACES

BEEN LOVIN FOUR TET FOR TOO LONG. THE SOUND OF YEARS PREVIOUS. THE GREATEST SHAME WAS WHEN I FOOUND OUT HE USED TO BE IN A POST-ROCK BAND, FRIDGE, WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE SHIT. NO OFFENCE KIERAN...YOUR GREAT ON YOUR OWN...

CHESTER P - FLOWERS

THE MAN, THE LEGEND...

WORD ABOUT SAYS TASK FORCE IS FINISHED, THE OLD MEN HAVE RETIRED AND WE HAVE NO-ONE TO REPLACE THEM...

I JUST HOPE I'VE HEARD WRONG...

SQUAREPUSHER - SQUAREWINDOW

I ONCE HEARD THAT SQUAREPUSHER CREATES ALL THE SOUNDS USED FROM SCRATCH.
I WASN'T REALLY VERY SUPRISED...

FROM: SQUARE WINDOW EP

ESKMO - CLOUDLIGHT

ive watched this video so many times over the last few weeks.... beautifully done. at first i thought his lyrics were almost meaningless jargon added to the beat just for effect, but the more and more i listen to him, the more and more i come to the conclusion that through every piece of his music, eskmo tries to convey a whole concept, whether it be trying to latch on to a way of thinking, a well thought out story, or even just some sound advice.
what i am certain of is that while he may be shy with his words, and they may sound meaningless and cliche - every single one is carefully chosen, and if you were to alter them in even the slightest then you would be deconstructing the story behind the song. sometimes you just have to turn your headphones up, close your eyes and try to visualize the music.... yeah thats right; im an audio douche.

AESOP ROCK - WATER

aesop rock says the reason he writes in the abstract way he does is because people tend to think in cuts and fragments, not one clear narrative; and with his music he wants people to gain an insight into his mind..... when i listen to a hiphop artist i want to be able to hear them as a person, and gain an understanding into their way of thinking....
his intentions as an artist + my requirements as a listener = one helluva good matchup.
